Kiev Warns of Gas Transit Cutoff Next Winter

Ukraine’s state gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy has suggested that Russia might be planning to stop exporting gas across Ukraine to Europe in January, just after the current transit agreement expires, by injecting more volumes into European gas storage and ramping up LNG supplies to Europe from Yamal. Yuri Vitrenko, chief operations offi- cer at Naftogaz, said in an interview with bne IntelliNews that even if Gazprom’s al- ternative pipelines - Nord Stream 2 and Turk Stream - are not completed on time, Russia as a whole might be able to get by without Ukraine’s transmission system starting in January.
