Russia Defends Gas Against EU ‘Climate Weapon’

Seen by some in Moscow as “Europe’s climate weapon,” the new hydrogen and energy system integration strategies published by Brussels last week as part of its ambitious Green Deal make it clear that Russian gas might have no future in Europe in 30 years’ time. Russia has yet to develop its own firm strategy to re- spond to what pro-Kremlin experts view as an attack on the market-based evolution of the energy industry, but it is understood that its immediate tactics are unchanged — to continue touting the environmental credentials of natural gas and convince the EU to soften its targets for the sake of sustainable economic growth.
