Aisultan Nazarbayev, the 29-year-old grandson of Kazakhstan's former long-serving President Nursultan Nazarbayev, died in London over the weekend of a suspected cardiac arrest. His death was confirmed by his mother, Dariga Nazarbayeva, who in a statement said the family was “devas-tated” by the news. Aisultan, who had a history of drug addiction and mental health is-sues, was the son of Rakhat Aliyev, Nazarbayeva's ex-husband who in 2015 was found dead in his prison cell in Vienna, where he was waiting to stand trial on charges of murder and extortion. Educated at the UK's presti-gious Sandhurst military school, Aisultan was also a member of the Chelsea football club youth academy.
