Govt may allow highway construction work to resume after April 14

The government may allow highway construction work from April 15 onwards in a bid to kick start economic activity in the country, two people privy to the development said. In a meeting held last Wednesday, Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari asked officials to explore ways to restart construction work on big highway projects where labourers are still available on site, a government official said. Work on the Dwarka Expressway, for instance, can be resumed immediately if the permission for resuming construction is accorded. This will, however, be done with certain restrictions, the official added.
