Last month saw two contrasting events that seem to highlight the contradiction increasing uncertainty about exploration funding, and project financing, in the mining industry. On April 8,2019, the S&P/TSX Global Mining Index reached its highest level in five years (78.9). Yet at the end of April, Macquarie Group announced it would "significantly scale back" its operations in Vancouver, including trade, sales and research units.
