I am of an age now where the kids are springing up like weeds on a warm day. My dear baby inched past her mother last year and then 14-year-old son and heir started patting her on the head about three weeks back. My wife is a sensible sort and not fussed with suddenly becoming the shortest person in the family, but damned if I am going to go so quietly. I still have a few inches on the boy and so am not panicking just yet, but if his shoe size is anything to go by, he will top out at about 6 foot 8 inches and thus my days at the head of the table are numbered.
