Chinese alumina imports soared in the third quarter of this year assmelters were eager to stockpile sufficient raw materials ahead ofplanned capacity cuts in northern China.However, it is unlikely that the market will see a similar volume ofimports in the fourth quarter, market participants told Metal Bulletin.China imported 847,026 tonnes of alumina in the three monthsended September 30, an increase of 82% from the prior quarter, and72% higher from the corresponding period last year.
