US ferrous scrap export demand may spur domestic price increase

Exporters in the United States have sold 10 ferrous scrap cargoes to Turkey this month, which could potentially bring some strength to the domestic market in March with at least 370,000 tonnes slated to move offshore over the next six weeks.Three cargoes were sold from the East Coast to Turkey over the past seven days. The latest bulk deal closed on Wednesday February 14 at $349.25 per tonne cfr for 30,000 tonnes of an 80:20 mix of No. 1 and No. 2 heavy melting scrap, $354.25 per tonne cfr for 5,000 tonnes of shredded scrap and $359.25 per tonne cfr for 5,000 tonnes of bonus-grade scrap.
