South32 exceeded its production guidance for its South African manganese ore operation by 3% in its full 2019 financial year due to stronger-than-expected production of its premium product, the miner said on Thursday July 18. South32 reported total production of 5.5 million tonnes at its South African and Australian divisions. “[We] delivered 5.5 million tonnes of manganese ore into a favorable market,” chief executive officer Graham Kerr said. Manganese ore prices have maintained historically high levels despite declining significantly since March-April this year due to high stocks and deteriorating sentiment in China.
