Prices for hollow steel sections in Northern and Southern Europe were unchanged this week while market participants digested the news about ArcelorMittal pulling out of the deal to buy Ilva, market sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday November 6. A mill source told Fastmarkets that the Ilva situation had changed the market in Italy and that, as a result, some mills had withdrawn their existing offers to try to raise prices. Earlier this week, ArcelorMittal announced that it was pulling out of the deal to purchase Italian steelmaker Ilva, following a dispute with the country’s government over the withdrawal of immunity from prosecution while the steelmaker addressed pre-existing environmental issues at the plant.
