US ferrous scrap export market strengthens on pick-up in demand

The United States’ ferrous scrap export market is booming due to a combination of strength in the domestic market and a global rebound in scrap prices. On the West Coast, two cargoes were sold to Vietnam and Bangladesh over the past week. One West Coast exporter sold a cargo to Vietnam containing an 80:20 mix of No1 and No2 heavy melting scrap (HMS) at $290 per tonne. A second West Coast exporter sold a cargo to Bangladesh containing HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $300 per tonne.
