US hot-rolled coil index still sub-$24/cwt; market hopes worst is over

US hot-rolled coil prices remain below $24 per hundredweight on limited spot activity and depressed demand. Fastmarkets’ daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US was calculated at $23.76 per cwt ($475.20 per ton) on Tuesday April 21, down 0.7% from $23.92 per cwt on Monday April 20 and 4.1% from $24.78 per cwt a week earlier. Inputs were received in a range of approximately $21.50-25 per cwt - a spread of $3.50 per cwt.
