Trading activity involving Chinese plate picked up in the past week due to the emergence of low export offers from China, although prices are expected to pick up soon. Fastmarkets’ price assessment for April shipments of steel heavy plate export, fob China main port was $450-465 per tonne for the week ended Tuesday February 18, widening downward by $10 per tonne from $460-465 a week earlier. A trader in eastern China told Fastmarkets that the company he works for had bought several thousand tonnes of plate from a mill in northern China at a base price of $450 per tonne last week. These cargoes were later sold to South Korea.
