China ferro-niobium imports down more than 50% month on month in December

Chinese imports of ferro-niobium fell to 2,915 tonnes in December 2019, a fall of 51% from 5,953 tonnes in November and down 26.1% from about 3,947 tonnes in December 2018, according to official (but unconfirmed) data seen by Fastmarkets. For the whole of 2019, ferro-niobium imports totaled about 46,687 tonnes - a significant rise of 30% from a total of 35,909 tonnes in 2018. Fastmarkets does not currently assess prices for ferro-niobium, but prices for ferro-vanadium - a commonly used substitute ferro-alloy - have been strengthening since the beginning of the year.
