Asian slab import prices jump amid higher iron ore costs, Chinese HRC surge

Import prices for steel slab in Southeast Asia and East Asia rose over the past week amid increases in the cost of iron ore and an upswing in China’s domestic hot-rolled coil market, participants said. Fastmarkets’ price assessment for steel slab imports, cfr Southeast Asia and East Asia was $377-385 per tonne on Monday June 1, up by $5-7 per tonne from $370-380 per tonne a week earlier. Trading activity outside China picked up over the past week, market sources said.
