EUROPE PLATE: Italian re-rollers squeezed between rising slab costs, lower plate prices

Italian re-rollers have come under pressure from a combination of rising feedstock costs and declining heavy plate prices, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday June 10. Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel domestic plate, 8-40mm, exw Southern Europe was €410-425 ($464-481) per tonne on June 10, widening downward from €415-425 per tonne a week earlier. The assessment, which was based on offers heard in the market, has fallen by €30-40 per tonne since the start of May.
