Australia's dominant coal hauler, Aurizon, and Queensland shippers are understood to have come to an agreement over rail access charges. Aurizon's conciliatory stance comes after it lost a legal challenge against Queensland Competition Authority (QCA) late last month. It is understood that the shippers have accepted Aurizon's argument that there has been a need to increase its maintenance program, and therefore costs. In addition, they also recognise that the weighted average cost of capital (WACC) component of its business has increased.
