Turkey’s 2017 coking coal imports increase

Turkey’s metallurgical (met) coal imports increased to 5.43 mtin 2017, up from 5.14 mt in 2016, according to the TurkishStatistical Institute.Imports from the United States took the lion’s share of themarket and overtook Australia by supplying 2.19 mt in 2017, upfrom 1.03 mt in 2016. US coking coal priced into Turkey morecompetitively than Australian coal. Steel producers were alsoconcerned about ongoing supply disruptions from Australiacaused by the weather and industrial action.
