India's coal production in October rose a provisional 10% year on year, while in January-October, output rose 8% on the year, according to data compiled by IHS Markit. Production in October stood at 59.63 mt, up from 54.08 mt in October 2017. In January-October, the country produced 587.38 mt, up from 542.73 mt in the same period a year earlier. October production also rose 20% from a revised 49.82 mt in September. But the increase in production was not sufficient to meet demand from the power, cement and steel sectors, which continue to increase coal burn.
