Asian freight rates fell for a third consecutive week across a raft of vessel sizes, easing alongside softening fuel prices and limited demand for coal shipments. “Poor coal shipment demand has weighed on Supramax and Panamax freight rates heavily, especially for the Indonesian-China route,” according to a Singapore-based shipping source. The Panamax voyage chartering rate for the Newcastle to South China route was around $12.80/t, down from $13.60/t last week. Capesize vessel freight rates for the same route were assessed at $11.75/t, down from $13.10/t last week.
