German and UK power prices fall, coal and gas weaken

A respite from the freezing cold in continental Europe and the United Kingdom, combined with a rise in renewables generation, pushed power prices down in the past fortnight. Power prices in Germany fell by 21% to EUR52.92/MWh on 8 February compared with EUR67.22/MWh two weeks ago. Renewable generation in Germany over the fortnight was strong at 3.83 TWh compared with 3.37 TWh of hard coal burn generation. The German clean dark spread fell by 68% to EUR4.87/MWh on 8 February from EUR15.30/MWh two weeks ago.
