US August thermal exports surge 65% on month

Thermal coal shipments out of the United States Gulf and East Coast ports climbed to 1.14 mt in August, up 65% from 0.69 mt the previous month and the highest since March, according to data from T. Parker Host. However, total thermal and metallurgical coal exports fell month- on-month to 3.71 mt in August, down 4% from 3.87 mt in July. March remains the best month for thermal exports this year at 1.80 mt, followed by February’s 1.69 mt.
