German coal fired power plants profits increased in the week ending 18 September on rising power prices and a fall in renewables. Power demand in Germany continues to show improvement with manufacturing activity picking up. Steel blast furnaces are understood to be operating at around 70-75% capacity. Auto manufacturing improved considerably in the country with average production rates expected at 88% and 96% in September and October, according to IHS Markit Automotive estimates.
