Exxaro H1 coal export sales up 39%

South Africa’s largest coal producer, Exxaro Resources, reported a 39% increase in coal export sales and a 3% rise in local volumes in the first six months of the year, boosted by a weaker rand and higher oftake from power utility Eskom, which more than ofset lower export and local prices. Total thermal coal sales in the first half rose 11% to 22.8 mt from 20.6 mt in the same period a year earlier. Export sales volumes increased to 5.9 mt from 4.3 mt with the group realising an average export price of $52.00/t compared with $54.00/t in the first half of last year.
