Mining behemoth BHP is again ?oating the idea of hiving of assets which don’t fit its capital expenditure criteria, potentially creating a coal-centric firm, including for the first time second-tier met coal assets, as well as thermal mines in Australia and Colombia. It has marked South Walker Creek and Poitrel met coal mines in Queensland, along with the 16.50 mt/y Mt Arthur thermal mine in New South Wales and its one-third stake in the Cerrejón thermal mine in Colombia for sale as it shules its asset portfolio towards what it called “future facing” commodities.
