Cerrejón union members vote to strike by overwhelming majority

Members of the Sintracarbón union at Colombia’s Cerrejón mine voted by an overwhelming majority to strike instead of seeking arbitration after contract negotiations between the two parties broke down earlier this month. A total of 3,588 unionised workers voted to strike, or 99.03%, while 26 voted to seek arbitration and nine votes were null. Cerrejón has close to 5,500 workers.
