Asian freight rates move in mixed directions

Cape rates on Asian routes found support from a pick-up in iron ore exports from Australia this week. However, demand for Panamaxes continues to be soft, while rates for Supramaxes remain at relatively high levels with demand stable on Southeast Asia to India and China routes. The voyage chartering rate for Capes traveling from Newcastle to South China stood at $12.40/t, up from $10.75/t the week before.
