Eskom has finally lifted the force majeure measures it imposed on collieries supplying its power stations on 16 April after the South African economy was placed in lockdown because of COVID-19 from the end of March. Exxaro Resources – which was the first coal company to confirm the force majeure action and the only one to notify Eskom of possible legal challenge to the declaration – said on 14 August that it had been told by Eskom that the “force majeure event” was “withdrawn with immediate effect”.
