Poland govt, Silesian unions agree to coal phase-out by 2049

Poland’s government and labour unions in the Silesian region reached a deal to phase out hard coal mining by 2049, an agreement that could prolong the country’s dependence on imports for power generation. Government negotiators on 25 September hailed the agreement as the ending of hard coal production for what initially appeared to be for the entire country, but coal producers later clarified later only covered those operating in the Silesia region.
