India defers bid deadline for commercial coal auction

The Indian government has deferred the deadline for submissions of technical bids to participate in the auction of coal blocks for commercial mining by more than a month, to 29 September. The government did not cite a reason for postponing the deadline from 18 August, but stakeholders have previously requested more time to carry out assessments of the assets on offer. The updated schedule means technical bids will be opened on 29 September, which will be examined between 1-16 October, and the auction itself would be conducted between 19 October and 9 November.
