Vattenfall offers to shut Moorburg plant in German tender

Sweden’s Vattenfall has submitted a bid to close its loss-making 1.6 GW Moorburg coal-fired plant, as part of Germany’s first hard coal phase-out tender. Germany’s federal energy regulator, the Bundesnetzagentur (BNA), closed the bidding last week in the country’s first tender to award compensation for up to 4 GW of hard coal-fired power plant closures. “Vattenfall has decided to submit a bid for a Moorburg capacity for the first coal phase-out auction,” the company said in a response to questions from IHS Markit.
