Spot prices for sulphuric acid sales to Chile showed another spike this week, while activity elsewhere was relatively limited with assessments stable. The range for Chile was assessed at $75-85/mt CFR from $60-70/mt, with previous reports of demand in the $80s/mt CFR further confirmed by a sale heard around $80/mt CFR. The tonnes on the latest deal are reportedly coming from India, and would represent the first shipment of acid to Chile from that country since 2012. Tight prompt spot availability from typical supply sources, combined with good acid demand from Chilean buyers, has led consumers to scramble for spot tonnes from wherever they can find them.
