China sulphur price edges higher despite high stocks

The delivered sulphur price to China reached $90/t CFR this week, the highest this year, even as port stocks remained close to 3 Mt. Consumers in the south of the country were said to be topping up their inventories, while traders on the Yangtze River were holding back, likely in the hope of liquidating stocks in larger volume in the weeks ahead. Still, some seasoned observers expressed bemusement at the higher prices in the face of such high stocks in what they said was a structurally oversupplied market.
