Optimism among suppliers west of Suez is increasingly evident with welcome news that direct ammonia application has begun in some US regions after a raft of poor seasons. Prices are yet to respond but should firm, albeit gradually, in early Q2. Direct application of ammonia in the US Corn Belt that began last week continued through part of this week, prompting producers to boost price demands in the US interior by $5-20/st, depending on location. The increases were felt as far as the barge market, raising the top end of the previous range by $5/st.
