US S. Plains: Ammonia price suffering from over supply

Spot offers of ammonia from Southern Plains production have fallen to $260/st FOB this week, due in part to the inability to move product by barge down the Arkansas River. As reported since early July, the Arkansas River has been blocked near the border of Oklahoma and Arkansas by silt and a sandbar. The most recent indications from the US Army Corps of Engineers are that it will take at least until October 1 before open navigation begins to return to that section of the river, according to some barge operators.
