Christmas Island Mine Viable to at Least Mid-2020s, says Owner

Western Australia-based CI Resources Ltd. has denied media reports that it will have to close its phosphate mining operation on Christmas Island in the near future if it does not secure approvals to mine on additional land. In a July 31 ASX statement, the company said current resources should support viable operations through to the mid-2020s. “However, if Commonwealth approval is obtained to carry out an exploratory drilling program, it is anticipated that the company could gain access to sufficient resources to sustain operations into the 2030s,” it said.
