Shell enters UK energy retail space via strategic acquisition of First Utility

Shell is to acquire First Utility, the UK’s largest independent household energy and broadband provider, in the supermajor’s latest move to embrace strategic opportunities in non-core downstream and retail segments. The sale will allow First Utility to “accelerate growth and develop new innovative customer propositions taking advantage of Shell’s breadth of energy investments, from renewables to electric vehicle charging,” the retailer said.
