Chevron halts IOC exodus in Alberta with plans to drill Duvernay shale gas play

Chevron is to launch a major drilling programme in Canada's Duvernay shale gas play following positive results from a three-year appraisal program, reversing the recent trend of IOCs exiting upstream positions in Alberta. The appraisal of well production rates, reservoir performance and noise impacts convinced Chevron to develop an initial 55,000-acre plot in East Kaybob in the liquids-rich Duvernay formation.
