No love lost between Russia and Lithuania as FSRUs help end gas co-dependence

Lithuania and Russia are both betting heavily on respective floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) as a means of reducing their energy co-dependence. Gazprom is poised to receive an FSRU to supply LNG to Kaliningrad and reduce gas transits via Lithuania to the Russian exclave. Lithuania, meanwhile, is moving to buy its operational FSRU, the Independence, before the charter expires in 2024 to reduce reliance on Russian piped gas.
