OMV eyes Asia Pacific entry via 50% stake in Sapura Energy’s upstream arm

OMV has signed a heads of agreement with Malaysia’s Sapura Energy regarding its intention to purchase a 50% stake in Sapura’s upstream arm, in line with the Austrian company’s 2025 strategy of greater internationalisation in both upstream and downstream sectors. A deal, with an enterprise value of USD 1.6 billion, would grant OMV access to the Asia Pacific region – which the Austrian company has highlighted as a strong demand centre for oil and gas going forward.
