Argentina's new left-wing president Alberto Fernandez delivered mixed news to the country's shale sector this week by appointing his close friend Sergio Lanziani as the country's new energy minister. The appointment is unlikely to ease concerns held by shale players over the future of the flagging upstream sector given Lanziani is a nuclear engineer and former energy official from Misiones province – a region with no oil or gas production. However, Fernandez’ choice of chairman for state-owned YPF may go some way to assuaging fears.
