The UK’s new legally-binding target for net zero climate emissions by 2050 could see natural gas with carbon capture play a much larger role in power generation compared to pathways to achieve the previous 80% CO2 reduction goal, according to the country’s power system operator. National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) published on Thursday its latest Future Energy Scenarios document, which illustrates possible decarbonisation pathways for the entire British energy system.
