Aramco kick-starts LNG push with potential stake in Sempra’s Port Arthur plant

Saudi Aramco has taken a big first step on its quest to become a leading LNG player after signing a heads of agreement (HoA) with Sempra Energy to take a 25% stake in the Port Arthur LNG project and lift almost half of the plant’s output over 20 years. The agreement, if finalised, will see Aramco take 5 mtpa from the first phase of the LNG plant in south-east Texas, which will initially feature two liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 11 mtpa.
