Iraq’s gas sector is ripe for reform as the country is wasting its substantial resources by venting and flaring vast volumes while relying on Iranian imports to bridge a power generation gap, the International Energy Agency said on Thursday. Iraq uses its substantial gas resources “far less effectively than most countries in the region” and the short-term incentives to develop a better functioning market “are strong,” the IEA said in a new report.
