Norway’s Equinor has awarded compatriot oil and gas services company Aibel a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract to modify the Hammerfest LNG plant in northern Norway, by building an onshore compression station and look into electrifying the liquefaction facility to lower operational emissions. The two phases of work will be undertaken in separate sub-projects. The first involves construction of an onshore compression station at the Hammerfest LNG plant to offset declines in well pressure as the Sn?hvit field decreases. The onshore compression station could increase the extraction rate for the Sn?hvit field from 45% to 70% available gas, according to Equinor. The company and its project partners plan a “concept select decision” for the compression scope during autumn 2020.
