US LNG lobbyists have called on US president Donald Trump to allow new long-term sales and purchase agreements (SPAs) signed with Chinese buyers today to count towards Beijing’s 2020 trade obligations under phase one of the US-China trade pact, even if deliveries don’t happen for years to come. But the ink had barely dried on their letter to the White House when Trump said he is no longer speaking to Chinese president Xi Jinping and threatened to sever bilateral relations entirely over China’s perceived failure to contain the Sars-Cov-2 novel coronavirus.
