EU ‘to double Azerbaijani gas flows in 2020s’ in spite of 2030 Green Deal pledge

The European Commission is already thinking to double European purchases of Azerbaijani gas to 20 Bcm/year, a senior EC official said in Baku in recent days. The comments from Klaus- Dieter Borchardt, deputy director-general of the EC’s Energy Union, come as the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) pipeline project nears full operation with the anticipated completion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) later this year – and as Brussels today unveiled legislation to enshrine in law its political pledge for the bloc to become “climate neutral by 2050”.
