Russia’s LNG champion Novatek has delayed the launch of Yamal LNG’s fourth liquefaction train by several months apparently due to design errors that left pipelines susceptible to brittleness and unsuitable for use in sub-zero Arctic temperatures, according to Russian newspaper Kommersant. The delay to Yamal’s experimental fourth train, which features Novatek’s novel proprietary Arctic Cascade liquefaction technology, breaks Novatek’s string of successes in building Yamal’s first three trains on budget and ahead of schedule.
