Trump administration plans first Arctic drilling lease sale by year-end, NGOs to sue

The Trump administration has finalised plans to permit oil and gas drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), undoing protections granted by Congress in 1980. The first ANWR lease sale could occur before the end of the year, US interior secretary David Bernhardt said on Monday, however it remains to be seen how much interest this will garner given the low price environment, coupled with the fact that many financiers have turned their back on Arctic drilling.
