Are an naturalists endangered species

【摘要】Adistinctive creature sporting a characteristic plumage of binoculars and multi-pocketed waistcoat once flourished in the British countryside, successfully transmitting its encyclopaedic knowledge to the next generation. But now the species known asthe naturalist - the man or woman equipped with excellent local knowledge of wild plants and animals, and the time to observe and conserve these species - is feared to be threatened with extinction.Britain is the birthplace of the naturalist. We venerate our pioneering amateur naturalists from Gilbert White, whose study of the plants and animals at Selborne, his Hampshire home, has been continuously in print since it was published in 1789, to Edith Holden, the artist and teacher who embodied the high point of the amateur naturalist in the Edwardian era.
